The dream machine. Complete with 22" wheels.
This magical being has but one simple request: You must spend that money on a brand new car. Now, you could buy something like a brand new Mirage and throw $50K worth of parts at it. Or, you could spend all of it on something like a BMW. What is your pick? I know mine.
That is a 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 R-Design in Bursting Blue Metallic. Options include 22" wheels, air suspension, convenience package, the Bowers and Wilkins sound system, and a graphical HUD! All for a grand total of....
Don’t worry about taxes. The fairy covers those
I am yet to drive one of these (for some reason the dealer won’t let an 18 year old drive an $80,000 SUV without any intention of buying) but it is everything I want in a new car. No joke, I would take this over anything else in this price range. I just love it so much.
Look at those seats!
400 horsepower! Turbo and supercharged and a battery on top of that! It’s incredible!
What would you do?

I’ll put it in a CD account and hold it there until the Civic Type-R goes on sale here. Then I take my $80k plus whatever interest accumulated and buy a fully-loaded CTR and use the rest for parts.

Model 3 or a DeLorean.

Top Spec Jaguar XES for £55,163 and spend the last £1000 on a remap for 100 more HP.

a spec’d up caterham 7 480
damn these are kinda expensive arent they?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:11 |

Was gonna yell at you about the Delorean but then I remembered that awesome news
So yeah, big thumbs up there from me

80k doesn’t quite get me into a new 911, but it does buy a lot of Cayman. I’d order a black S with Luxor Beige interior and some goodies.

I forgot just how good the XE looks. Jaguar has styling perfect lately

I love those headlights *almost* as much as I love Thor’s Hammer
You picked a legend.

This:
2016 Camaro 1LT RS Turbo
Then I would mechanically restore/refresh the 4Runner, pay for in state tech school, and then put the rest in savings to get myself ahead on leaving the Southeast.
You said I had to buy a brand new car, you didn’t say I couldn’t spend the rest on something else.

Destination charges don’t count, right? RIGHT!?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:18 |

I like practical thinking
Kind of excited for this Camaro. I want to drive one when my dealer gets one.
In all honesty, I would take it over the FiST (saw your post earlier)
I don’t know, a souped up Fiesta just doesn’t do it for me. I felt too big for it. And I do find my C30 more fun to drive
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:18 |

What? I thought we hated the new M3 because it’s a bloated, numb luxury barge that destroys the legacy of the previous generation which was a perfect driver’s car that will be the benchmark of what a performance car should be for decades.
You know, like the last M3, or the one before that.
(I should disclaim since somebody will disagree: I have seen these things said about all three when they were new)
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:20 |

XJ-R or an M5. Or a loaded Boxster. Or what djmt1 said.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:21 |

On Topic: Probably an M4
Off Topic: I recently drove the T6 and T8 back to back. Unless you specifically want the plug-in hybrid features, the T8 is pointless. Neither one is fast, and the T8 isn’t really enough faster than the T6 to justify the MASSIVE price hike.
A specced up T6 is like $20k less than a similarly-equipped T8

It all comes down to the dealer really. I can get the GM employee discount, and it puts the car’s MSRP around 2k more than the FiST(Spec’d exactly like this), but I seem to remember the discount being slightly better than what the estimator was estimating.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:23 |

Lots of Jaguars here today!
And yeah, I’m sure you could negotiate that off!
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:24 |

GM really likes to take care of their employees (and their families)
At least by me, the Ford dealer is terrible. Like I will never step foot there again.
Good luck with whatever you do.
Does that mean the ‘yota will be gone???
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:25 |
|
Both are pretty good choices. For $80,000, you have a lot of leeway when optioning an M3. Here’s what I’d get for that amount:
And here’s what I’d get if I’d have to spend out of pocket:
($65,695 for the white one)

I’ve never really understood the BMW fanboy thing
But I’m a Volvo nut so....
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:26 |
|
I know, right? Forget the F-Pace and XE. If Jag really wants to boost their sales, apparently all they have to do is give everyone $80,000.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:27 |
|
That Smoked Topaz is really nice; really not an expected M color!
I was going to set the max at $75,000 but I needed to add options onto my XC!
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:29 |

No, the Yota will stay. It’s cheap to insure, and I’m too attached to it to even take a crazy offer. Both Ford dealers close to me have been good, one exceptionally good:
http://oppositelock.kinja.com/what-is-the-be…
My Boss buys fleet from my local Chevy dealership though, so maybe I can try to leverage that in there as well.

In my experience in owning one for a while; a lot of BMW owners fit the stereotypes pretty well. Overly concerned with and convinced of their own status. Of the rest, quite a few fit into the “I dislike things to show how distinguished my tastes are.” group.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:30 |
|
FUCK
Alright then, let’s try this-
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:36 |
|
That really pleasant to read
While I was looking at replacing the C30 (long story....) I went to so many dealers. Some (like Ford) were terrible in general. Scion has a god-awful salesguy but a decent manager. Kia had a great salesguy but awful manager. VW and Buick were probably the best but we just couldn’t strike a deal
Really glad to see the Toyota staying. I’ve been trying to find a cheap one. Theres a 2WD one with 130k miles for only $2200. Very tempting if it was 4x4
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:36 |
|
I’d like to say you might be able to negotiate that off, but I have a feeling GT4s will be having crazy stupid markups....
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:37 |
|
Ha ha. More money gives more opportunity to try overpriced things out.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:38 |
|
I hate how a lot of BMW owners are put in a bad light.
Actually, forget about that. Most are jerks.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:40 |
|
Yeah, it was nice experience. Also, as long as you have a decent set of tires(snow rated with mountain snowflake, not M+S), a 2WD 4Runner will do fine in the snow. When I got decent tires, I never needed 4WD in the snow, except when I was just being stupid on purpse.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:43 |
|
I’ll be waiting.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:45 |
|
Yeah. Alright. Got me there.
But I would be super dumb by that point and get a rebel blue V90 Polestar
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:47 |
|
Update: I’d get a Cayman GTS. Black with Luxor Beige interior, torque vectoring, GTS exterior package, PDLS Plus, and several no-cost options. Right below the limit.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:47 |

Buy a Nissan Micra Cup car. It is $40,000 up front ($20,000 for fully built car, $20,000 to run full season). Then use the remaining $40,000 to run 2 more seasons. Hopefully I pick up sponsors during those 3 seasons to run it after the $80,000 runs out.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:48 |
|
What can I say? I want one. A lot.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:54 |
|
Eh, I feel like the V90 would be a bit too big to be a good hoon-mobile, so I’d like one in either that gorgeous Magic Blue Metallic or Mussel Blue Metallic and just go cruising around knowing that I have possibly the prettiest (and only) executive wagon on the market.
Magic Blue Metallic^
Mussel Blue Metallic^

I had forgotten these existed.
Spider is the only way I’d have one
![]() 03/28/2016 at 20:59 |
|
I don’t know how you could have any more fun to be honest
![]() 03/28/2016 at 21:05 |

Maybe a Miata cup car be just as much fun, but it costs $50,000, before the the cost of the tires, fuel, etc.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 21:11 |

Seconded...Alfa Giulia QF. With one of those weird “manual gearbox” things..

C7 Corvette.

Audi S6 Prestige. It came in at $82k with a bunch of extra goodies. Not sure what I would get rid of, so I’ll have to just work a few extra weekends at McDonald’s

Hear me out. 2016 BMW 228i Sport in Glacier Silver Metallic over Black SensaTec. It already has sport seats and the 8 speed sport automatic with paddle shifters. Take the other $45k and save them for a rainy day.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 21:34 |

$64.5k base + $6k CF Wings + $4k Alcons + $3.2 JRi shocks/springs + $1300 parking brake + $450 HANS belts + $275 Rear brake bias adj + $275 batt switch = $80k.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 21:58 |
|
Yes to that interior!
I’m sure you could negotiate it down a little, right?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 22:13 |

$39,645 buys a lot of premium fuel and summer tires.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 23:00 |

Is this cheating?
![]() 03/29/2016 at 00:18 |

Hmmmmmmmm
I’m going to allow it because we need to embrace our electric overlords
That was an impressive loophole
![]() 03/29/2016 at 02:34 |
|
Cool! This works out perfectly with the 20 grand I already have :)
What is that? No, I didn’t get carried away at all lol Im pretty sure I can find this for $80k used.
![]() 03/29/2016 at 02:40 |
|
Hmmm wonder why they didn’t give us a twerk-your-butt-off-burnt-deep metallic purple urple....I really can’t see myself buying an executive sedan without that color.
![]() 03/29/2016 at 18:51 |

Its close... Can I make up the difference?
![]() 03/29/2016 at 18:53 |

Damn, totally forgot about this
![]() 03/29/2016 at 19:21 |

Thank you for picking the Convertible!
Because of that (and the fact that you could probably negotiate that bit off)
I’ll allow it
![]() 03/29/2016 at 20:15 |

I was thinking coupe, but I wanted the convertible more and I wish the V8 came with a stick, but I am happy with the V6 and a manual.

Shelby GT350R and money to spare
